This is my second year growing these Lesya peppers

This is my second year growing these Lesya peppers from @bakercreekseeds and I love them. I love the deep red colour they achieve, their pointy little bottoms and their flavour!

This years harvest is destined to become some homemade red pepper jelly as soon as they are all ripe. I’ll be posting the recipe on my blog very soon! Link to the blog is in my bio.

Success is a matter of perspective.

Is this a perfect cob of Hopi turquoise corn? Nope! But due to the damage the Japanese beetles did to the silks I didn’t think I would have ANY kernels.

So when I opened this one up and saw some gorgeous blue kernels I was so excited. And that my friends is success.

If you are setting your hopes on everything going perfect in the garden then you will most likely be disappointed and may even give up. It is so much better to hold onto the WINS you do get even if they are small.

So next year I am going to experiment with blossom bags over the silks to hopefully keep those damn Japanese beetles out and still let the pollen in! Each individual kernel of corn needs to be individually pollinated, so hopefully the blossom bags will let next years success be even bigger.

I didn’t have a drying rack for my calendula flo

I didn’t have a drying rack for my calendula flowers so I made a makeshift one with some tulle from my wedding (12 years ago!) and a box!

I am planning to actually make a wooden one and will do a video/blog post on how to make it once I get organized! Until then, I’ll use my box 😂

Well, canning season is upon us! My peppers are growing incredibly well in the raised bed in my front garden which means I have lots of varieties to work with!

I am trying my hand at making a fermented hot sauce. This batch contains the following peppers:
- Yellow biquinho
- Red biquinho
- Sweet bonnet
- Trinidad perfume
- Jigsaw
- Kalugeritsa
- Czech black
- Fish

I noticed this guy during the day because of a giant pile of caterpillar poop he left. They are crazy hard to find normally and one of my favourite ways to find them is with a black light flashlight at night!

If you are looking for a pollinators friendly plant to add to your garden I would strongly recommend honeywort. The bees love it and I find the leaves so pretty. They have blue/grey hue to them and little even lighter polka dots on them.

Lemon balm is a newer herb for me but I have already learnt that it can take over in a second if you are not careful!
